Party Planning Dos and Don’ts for Every Occasion

Are you preparing to host a party, a wedding reception, or a business gathering? Especially if it’s something big, you’re going to want to pull off a flawless event. Perhaps you can’t afford to hire a professional event organizer, or you just want the satisfaction doing it yourself. Either way, here are a few ways to get the best out of the occasion.

Logistics

First and foremost, you need to have the basics to work with. The budget is number one, especially if this is a business event and you’re getting your orders from the top. Once you have the budget, you can do just about anything even with limited resources if you’re creative enough. Be sure to plan for less than the budget limit, as other expenses may suddenly pop up. Make sure you have a guest list, a theme, and a menu. Find a venue for the event that has more than enough space for the number of guests you are inviting. There’s nothing worse than being cramped in a stuffy room when you’re trying to have fun.

Catering

Depending on the theme, your menu will vary, and not all of your guests will eat meat. So make sure you have many vegetarian options available too. If, for example, you’re going for an Asian cuisine, Miss Chu Tuck Shop can cater some delicious Vietnamese or Thai finger foods for your event. Or, if your event is going to include a meal, you can get multiple courses served, from their starters to their specialty desserts. Whatever sort of party you’re having, always have something for guests to eat and drink.

Décor

Don’t get carried away with the appearance of the venue. You don’t want the place to look gaudy or ostentatious. Minimalism is the in thing now, and you can get a classy look with low expense by being simple but elegant. A basic colour scheme should encompass everything from the decorations to the table settings. Too much detail can look pretentious, but if you’re too subtle, the place can look plain and dull. Use colours that pop and stand out, but make sure to stick to those couple of key colours and no more.

Party Favours

A good host usually has something to give the guests at the end of the party. If your event is themed, the goodie bag should be in tandem with this theme. The colour schemes should also match. If your decorations are green and white, the wrapping or containers for whatever you give your guests should be green and white. If your event is a product launch, include samples or free gift packs in the party favours.

Be Prepared

Follow the Boy Scout rule and be prepared for unexpected issues to pop up. You don’t want to run out of food, so always order a little extra. Make sure there are emergency medical kits around, just in case there’s an injury. If you’re having alcohol at your party, little injuries might just be a given, whether a bump on the head or a cut from a broken glass.

The most important thing is that you relax and have fun. If you’ve planned well, and you’ve adhered as closely as possible to these few main points, you can rest assured your party will be a raging success.
