Real Vancouver Wedding: Kelly & Zac

Our day was inspired by the bottle of Champagne that we were given by my parents on the night of our engagement. I loved how the whole day come together beautifully.

Zac proposed to me in Whistler over an amazing dinner out. He had secretly gotten us a hotel up there and had Champagne and strawberries waiting for us when we got back. It was the best weekend ever!

I was blown away by the flowers at our wedding. I described my vision to the florist, and she seemed to get it right away. About a month before the wedding, I went with my mother and mother-in-law to see a few samples she had made for me.

I hadn’t ever heard of a sample showing before, but it allowed us to tweak colours and styles. When I saw the large arrangements on the wedding day I couldn’t believe how beautiful they were. They were even more amazing than I had imagined.

I tried on almost every dress in two stores and was very torn between a more simple, traditional dress and a traditional/modern fusion dress.

Finally I realized that I was a mix of modern and traditional, and my dress should be as well. I loved dress shopping!

I loved the continuity of the Champagne graphic on the invitations, cake, seating chart, etc. It was very meaningful to us.

Our wedding cake had the Champagne graphic piped onto it and looked lovely. We had 3 flavours of cake: vanilla cake with raspberry and passionfruit mousse, chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream, and flourless chocolate cake with sour cherries.

Not only was the cake beautiful, but it was so delicious. I can’t remember having wedding cake that tasted so good!

Inspired by Watters Brides

Today I’m inspired by Watters and the colors blue, purple, and dark pink. I love the dreamy, romantic, and timeless look of the Watters collection. Not to mention that when paired with this color palette it gives a sophisticated look to any wedding.

Whether you have a vintage or classically styled wedding, blue, purple, and dark pink is a color scheme to remember and it has me swooning for more!

BLT Burgers

Today’s post has nothing to do with weddings or parties. It might have everything to do with Hell’s Kitchen (which I was watching last night :) ). Sometimes you just need to indulge and since its summer and you always need a great grill recipe!

This BLT burger recipe comes straight from the source itself New York Chef Laurent Tourondel, the mastermind behind the grand prize featured in Hell’s Kitchen, BLT Steaks.

So, grab your favorite beverage and invite some friends over and indulge in a great burger.

Happy Wednesday! :)

Laurent Tourondel’s BLT Burgers

Serves 6 (recipe courtesy of Delish)

BLT Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup(s) mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup(s) ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon(s) red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon(s) grated onion
  • 1 teaspoon(s) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon(s) chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon(s) chopped tarragon

Burgers

  • 2 2/3 pound(s) ground beef
  • 6 slice(s) sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1  red onion, thinly sliced
  • 12 slice(s) applewood-smoked bacon, sliced into 1/4-inch strips and 1/2-inch crosswise, cooked until crisp
  • 2  vine-ripe tomatoes, sliced in 1/4-inch slices
  • 6  leaves romaine lettuce, ribs removed
  • Coarse sea salt
  • Cracked black pepper
  • 6  burger buns with sesame seeds, split

Directions

Make the sauce: Combine the ingredients and stir until well combined. Store covered in the refrigerator for at least one hour before using.

Cook the burgers: Season the meat with salt and pepper, making sure not to overwork the meat. Gently form the meat into six 7-ounce patties. Grill for 3 minutes on each side over medium high heat. Do not push down on the burgers as this will cause the juices to run out. Place a slice of cheese on top of the burgers and cook until melted.

Assemble the burgers: Remove from the grill and place a burger on each bottom bun. Top with the onion, bacon, tomato, and lettuce and a generous tablespoon of the BLT Burger Sauce. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.

Crazy About Wedding Altars

From paper to fresh flowers I’m crazy over wedding altars. What I love about altars is the twist you can put on it to make it your own. Here are some of my favorites I’ve seen recently!

This wedding stage was made by the bride’s brother to resemble an old church. Don’t you LOVE it!

I just love this altar with pillar candles and candler. It gives it such a romantic feel.

Want a great DIY project? This altar was made out of fabric and wooden picture frames!

With a combination of pinwheels, kites, paper flowers, and an explosion of colors this altar is AMAZING!

I love the detailing in this paper arch. Leave it to Martha Stewart to give us this genius idea!

We’ve seen paper pompom garlands before, but I just love the colors on this one.

I’ve always loved Indian weddings. The detail and colors that go into the ceremonies always leave me breathless.

What would a post about wedding altars be without a classic and simple altar? Simple always goes a long way especially if your getting married on the beach!
