Real New York Wedding: Cindy & Roger

Describe the proposal. It was our 9th year anniversary. The day was July 23, 2009. It was raining and thunder storming that day, simply just another ordinary anniversary…

We had made dinner reservations at Asiate at 6pm. The waiter sat us by the corner with a wonderful view of Central Park and Columbus Circle. During dinner, Roger asked me if I wanted my anniversary gift. I originally thought he bought me a Little Big Planet – Shackboy doll. I immediately said no since we were in such an elegant restaurant, I did not want to feel embarrassed.

However, Roger gave me a small blue bag – the ever famous Tiffany bag. Inside was the  famous blue box wrapped in white ribbon. For a split second, I thought it was a ring box but that was quickly diminished as the box did not look like a ring box. Inside was a beautiful necklace.

After dinner the waiter brought us dessert. To our surprise, the restaurant gave us a complimentary dessert scribing “Happy Anniversary” on the plate. During dessert, Roger said, “I’ve been going out with this girl for nine wonderful years; do you think that if I proposed to her that she will marry me? Cindy will you marry me?”

I was in disbelief and quickly realized he was asking me to marry him… I said YES!

On my 26th birthday, my mom and my sister came with me to RK Bridal. I had previously gone with my sister to RK Bridal and had three top selections. I already had a pretty good idea what dress I wanted but I wanted my mom to see my top three picks.

The first was a very simple yet elegant dress that fit my body very well. She was of course not impressed and asked to the see the next. The second was a little more intricate; however, she still was not impressed and asked to the see the next.

When I finally put on my last dress and went outside to see my mom, she said this is it. My dress was designed by Sottero & Migley.

Our most memorable moment was the reveal. It was Roger’s first time seeing me in my wedding gown. We had spoken to our photographers (Photography by Verdi) about having a first look and what we wanted. Roger was waiting at the gazebo at The Woodlands at Woodbury with his back turned while our bridal party surrounds him for moral support. When the moment was right, I walked down the brick path. The expression on his face was simply priceless.

Since we had an American wedding, we wanted to incorporate an Asian element into the mix. Before the ceremony we had a Chinese Tea Ceremony. The Chinese Tea Ceremony was done to show respect and honor our parents and grandparents for all of their hard work in raising us.

We had two favorite design elements for our big day. One was our Monopoly theme, which consisted of Personalized Property Cards that were used as escort cards for the guests. We also had little houses holding up the escort cards which were the wedding favors.

The second was Roger’s love for his car. He has a lighting blue Subaru WRX STi, which  was part of our cake topper.

We had a four-tiered, squared-shaped, red velvet cake with white frosting and elegant piping around the cake with royal purple ribbon on each tier. It was absolutely beautiful and delicious. On top of the cake, we had a custom cake topper made of ourselves and Roger’s car.
