According to CNBC, the average wedding cost in the United States is almost $34,000. However, in a bid to have the perfect wedding, people tend to ignore some fundamentals, which ruins what should have been the best day of their lives. In most cases, people don’t know what exactly to avoid when planning a wedding. From the bridal clothes to the guests, venue, etc., it’s best to have an idea of the dos and don’ts. Here are a few things to avoid.

  • Not setting a wedding budget

A budget is supposed to act as the financial guideline that helps you know the wedding planning limits. Every wedding needs a venue, décor, clothes, food, and drinks, etc. Without setting a cap, you’ll most likely exceed what you and your partner can foot comfortably. From experiences shared by others, the wedding budget requires the parties (the bride and groom) involved to have that ‘talk.’ More so, it’s a great way to start your financial journey as a couple.

Furthermore, it’s worth knowing that besides the venue, catering, and DJing that take up a considerable chunk of your wedding money, other charges tend to pile up as well. For example, rental cars, hotel booking, and flight costs tend to accumulate without careful planning. These are all things you must factor into the wedding budget to ensure everything is attended to without problems. As a tip, in planning your budget, make room for an emergency fund for any unforeseen eventuality.

  • Micromanaging your wedding vendors

The urge to oversee every little detail of events leading up to your special day is tempting. However, according to wedding planners, you should try to avoid doing that. Although it’s easy to worry about whether they can deliver, it’s best to keep in mind that they’re professionals with enough experience.

For example, everybody understands that aa wedding receptions,  party catering is a crucial element in the order of the day. However, it’s not in your place to control every detail of the vendor’s plans, although it’s your wedding. To avoid this, you’ll need to communicate what you expect of them. Ultimately, you’ll have to trust them to deliver on time and according to professional standards without ruining your event.

  • Failure to have a backup plan for an outdoor wedding

Sometimes, outdoor weddings are the trickiest of the lot. Perhaps, you have an outdoor summer wedding planned out, but it’s prudent to have a backup plan should it rain on that day. It can sometimes rain during summer, so it’s best to have a contingency plan.

Admittedly, a backup plan means more financial commitment, but it’s better than having the wedding ruined. You can have a prior agreement with an enclosed event center, where you’ll be required to pay a refundable holding fee or not (depending on the entity). Another strategy you can opt for is to have a sturdy, water-proof tent erected close to your outdoor grounds. This way, your event can be moved in there if the unexpected happens.

Hopefully, these points discussed here give you an idea of what to be mindful of as you plan towards your special day. Moreover, it helps keep your sense of humor alive to avoid getting stressed over minor issues that can be easily rectified.
