4 Tips to Stay Healthy When Moving

Moving to a new house is a heavy-lifting task. Some moving companies are ready to help, but keeping yourself healthy during the process is also essential.

Below, we tell you some tips to keep you fit.

1. Make sure you have proper food and break

Moving means hard physical work, and it makes you hungry and thirsty. So that your helpers have enough energy as well, it is best to offer several meals – and make plenty of drinks available at all times. Snacks and sweets that everyone can access for themselves are better than a large meal that is heavy in the stomach and for which you still need cutlery in case of doubt. Ordering pizza for everyone is also a good idea.

Nobody can plow non-stop. Plan a half-hour lunch break in which your helpers can regenerate a little.

2. Be well organized

If you approach your move with a schedule, you can do it faster and usually reasonably easy. So prepare everything, and you can: pack everything safely, but don’t make the boxes too heavy – think about your helpers’ health as well!

Label the boxes and clarify which van will carry them on the day of the move in advance. On day X, gather all the helpers together and give a short, motivating speech.

If not all helpers know each other yet, introduce everyone to each other. Then describe the most important key data of the move and clarify any questions. Have suitable tools and aids such as carrying straps or hand trucks and a first aid box ready so that they can be used if necessary.

3. Stay relaxed

Yes, moving is exhausting. Therefore, try to take it easy – or at least give that impression. Because your mood is of course transferred to the helpers. Please don’t make a drama out of it.

If something breaks, think of the motto broken pieces bring luck. And if it’s something very valuable, insurance will undoubtedly step in. In short, be solutive!

Everything goes better with music – including the move.

If you let the music play while you are lugging the boxes, the work will be easier.

If you are unsure what kind of music it should be, it is best to ask your helpers about their taste. Otherwise, the radio always works.

4. Approach the move in a playful way

Do you like games? Then make your move to a contest and think of small games or challenges. Maybe your helpers will have fun dragging boxes around the bet.

Or you can turn a work chain into a word chain. It works like this: When passing the box on, everyone says a word that ties in with the previous one, for example, television, necklace, earring.

But keep in mind: Games are not for everyone, so of course, don’t force anyone from moving companies to participate.

Final Thoughts

In stressful phases, all things will be out of mind. Consciously prioritizing can help you stay healthy and fit even then. So take a few conscious minutes of your time and question. What is the most important thing at the moment?

Which things take precedence over everything else? It is perfectly okay if you realize that healthy eating is currently not a high priority. Such phases are not dramatic, but it makes it easier to do something essential when you know that it is not that important to you at the moment. When you’ve set your priorities accordingly, base your actions accordingly.

Especially in phases when we feel stressed, many of us criticize and fight ourselves even more intensely. Break this vicious circle!

You already have enough to do with the stressful phase. It won’t help you to stay healthy and fit if you also get ready yourself. Start by developing self-compassion and understand that things are not going well right now. Try to integrate small oases without the “inner critic.” Make yourself aware of how you should treat other people.
