If you are thinking of throwing a wedding in the near future, a magician might be a good way to embellish your celebration. There are many talented magicians in Sydney, it can be difficult to determine which one to choose.
The first thing you need to be aware of is that there are no schools, colleges or universities in Australia that teach the performance of magic. All magicians in this country are either self taught, or have a personal mentor. This lack of formal education does not necessarily mean they are unskilled or that they don’t put in a great amount of effort studying and practicing their performances. However, this lack of formal education systems means that our industry is largely in anarchy and the most successful performers are ones who have the best marketing or business skills and not necessarily the most talent. Although, clearly it is tough to make a career as an entertainer if you have no talent. It is just important for you to be aware that price is not necessarily directly proportional to skill, a higher price will not necessarily get you better service, although it does tell you that the performer is at least performing regularly and has good experience.
You should also look up footage of a magician you are considering hiring to see if their magic is too your taste, if you can’t find much, you are taking a shot in the dark in choosing to hire them. Look up their reviews on google as it is impossible for a business to censor these, unlike the ones placed on a performers website, which will probably be carefully chosen. You must also be careful to check if awards they display on their web pages are real ones, many performers will simply make up awards or they will create competitions and invite a small group of their friends. Look up the organizations that gave the awards on google to verify if they are legitimate.
