Bridal Shoe Choices Depending on the Style of the Dress

A wedding dress and shoes are like birds of a feather, one complements the other so when you are picking your wedding shoes, pick them with equal devotion as a wedding dress. Now, you don’t need to make the science out of it, but start with matching your shoes with your dress, and not only by color coordination. You have to consider comfort, height, fabric, personal style and last but not least, your wedding dress shape. There are many bridal shoes that look amazing at first glance, but you have to ask yourself if they would pair well with your dress. Different styles of dresses call for different styles of shoes.

Ball Gown

A Ball Gown, or an A-line dress is a classic princess gown with a voluminous skirt that falls out to the ground. Whether it’s a simple, single-layer fabric skirt, or a multiple-layer tulle skirt, your shoes will not be very noticeable. This is a wedding dress that definitely takes all the attention. Still, you’ll probably want to wear a beautiful pair of shoes, if only for your own pleasure. Even Cinderella’s glass slippers managed to upstage the dress, so take a hint. Since they won’t be the centre of attention, you can without any guilt choose more comfortable shoes. Lower heel pumps are a great choice and if your dress has any kind of embroidery work, like lace detail or pearls, you can choose shoes with similar work on them. This kind of embellished shoes are particularly glamorous and attractive, so you’ll still have shoes as beautiful as the dress.

Mermaid Gown

A mermaid, trumpet, sheath or column dress are all wedding dresses that have one thing in common. They are very silhouetted dresses, mermaid and trumpet the most so, that accentuate curves, or that can make the illusion of them if that is your goal. They are very elegant and feminine. They suit curvier figures as well as leaner ones and so it’s no surprise they are the most frequent choices for wedding dresses. Sexy, embellished peep-toe Badgley Mischka shoes are perfect bridal shoes for a mermaid dress. On the other hand, if your choice is a sophisticated sheath dress, opt for satin peep-toe or romantic open-toe, simple strap sandals.

Tea Length

Now, this is a dress in which you can proudly walk down the aisle showing off your shoes. A tea-length wedding gown has a vintage, sophisticated ladylike touch to it. Its hemline ends anywhere between the ankle and the knee. It’s somewhat shorter version of a classic ball gown, because of its A-line cut. Based on your dress and your personality, you can even experiment a little if you’re daring enough, and try some color or a print on your shoes. You can even make a small brooch, made of the same detail as your wedding dress, for an interesting touch. A perfect choice for all pin-ups out there is a pair of kitten heels, and maybe even short gloves!

Short

Short wedding dresses are cut above the knee, with or without a long train at the back that makes them unique and very attractive. The same as with a tea-length dress, your shoes will be the centre of attention, so you can opt for a killer pair of strappy sandals, which will make a statement, flatter your feet and elongate your legs substantially. They look spectacular but they will also probably hurt your feet after a few hours, so make sure you have an equally dashing substitute pair. Choose similar stripy sandals with wider and lower heels for better support, or even pointed flats in high-shine leather or satin covered in lace.
