Book Review: Madeleines

madeleines cookbook

Have you heard of the delicious French pastry called a Madeleines? If not, let me tell you about these classic sea-shell cakes that are better than cake pops, cupcakes and macarons… They are amazing! Madeleines can be sweet or savory and are very easy to make with Barbara Feldman Morse’s simple one-bowl method.

I recently had the opportunity to review Morse’s book, Madeleines: Elegant French Tea Cakes to Bake and Share, which by the way is available now. I have never made madeleines before because I thought they would be to difficult to figure out, but once I got the Madeleines cookbook in the mail I knew this was a great opportunity to try something new. First off, I love all of the amazing photography in the book. There are so many tips and techniques offered to help you make an elegant snack that experienced bakers and beginners will have an easy time in the kitchen. There are over 70 recipes in the Madeleines cookbook that you won’t have any trouble finding the perfect recipe for any occasion. Your guests will love them for afternoon tea, gifts, brunch and cocktail parties and they are the perfect make ahead dessert for your wedding dessert table.

Some of the recipes included are Eggnog Madeleines, Chai Tea, Maple Granola Madeleines, Molten Madeleines, Peach and Cream, Brie-Stuff Madeleine Puffs, and Bananas Foster Madeleines to name a few. So far I’ve tested out Classic French Madeleines and can’t wait to experiment a little more… There may be another blog post in the future on that!

Make sure you check out the Madeleines cookbook, it’s a great gift for the baker in the family! Thanks so much to Quirkbooks for sending this beautiful cookbook for review its become a fast favorite of mine.

Happy Baking! 🙂
