Vintage & Antique Wedding Variety

Vintage weddings have got to be one of the most popular wedding themes of the moment with bridesmaids in candy coloured, fifties prom dresses flooding social media sites over the summer months. But not only vintage style weddings have to be the stereotypical glamorous affair that we all think of when someone mentions the theme, vintage. In fact vintage and antique style weddings account for a large proportion of the wedding market now and cater for all tastes, not just the glamour pusses reliving the rather American fifties dream. From weddings in barns to headscarves and historical looking rings there really are options to suit everyone.

Clothing

Not all weddings have to have super sleek and sophisticated attire, sometimes a more relaxed vibe fits the couple and their theme much better. For example a groom in a tweed jacket and a bride in a flowery summer dress makes for a down to earth country wedding. Taking it a stage further to a farm wedding in a bran, perhaps guests could arrive in denim and sit on hay bales for a totally different feel. Some weddings have special entertainment that dictate the theme of what guests wear such as burlesque performers who would encourage corseted dresses and tail suits.

Jewellery

Gone are the days when wedding jewellery was restricted to simple white gold and solitaire diamonds. There are now a whole host of jewellers who specialise in creating one of a kind handmade rings and necklaces especially for wedding days. From contemporary and quirky, multi -stone, rainbow coloured necklaces to genuine antique pieces, each style of jewellery suits a different type of wedding and a different bride and her bridesmaids. Consider stockists of genuine antique rings, like George Tarratt, for something totally individual and yet steeped in history for that extra special touch for your vintage day.

Location

The wedding location and of course how it is dressed will perhaps have the biggest impact on your theme and whether or not you pull it off effectively. Once you have decided on your era, maybe the 1920’s for example, scour the local area looking for any buildings or gardens that were built during that period. If you aren’t lucky enough to drop onto somewhere from the right decade and in the right price range then the dressing of the venue will have to play the biggest part in setting the scene.
