Real Colorado Wedding: Katie & Jake

Our dads grew up on the same block and spent many summers running around the neighborhood together. Later my dad became friends with Jake’s mom as well and they would hang out together during high school. Our parents went separate ways for college and lost touch for a while before reconnecting back in Peoria during a visit. Since I was 2 yrs old, our parents and families have been good friends and we made a point to see each other several times a year, including vacationing together.

When Jake was working in Chicago we would get together and hang out and before you knew it we were dating. Colorado has really been a stronghold in both of our families lives and our history together. Jake’s grandpa owns a cabin in Buena Vista where both our families would vacation. We spent many summers making that Colorado trip together. Throughout the years we developed a strong fondness for Colorado & the Buena Vista area in particular.

Buena Vista is also home to 2 Young Life camps which all members of the family have either worked at or participated with in some capacity. Further adding to our families richness in history to the area. My parents decided to move to Buena Vista & continue their lives in the mountains. While dating, Jake and I would make trips to CO to visit my parents and explore the area.

During a trip last summer, we made the hike to the Continental Divide at Cottonwood Pass (the same hike we had done since we were 2). Once we had reached the top, we took only a few steps when Jake took my hand from behind and turned me around to face him. When I turned around Jake had gotten down on one knee and asked me if I would be his wife.

Having fallen in love with each other and the Buena Vista area, we could think of no other place to celebrate starting our lives together.
