Real Park City Wedding: Deveree & Lucas

How did the two of you meet? We first met when I was in 9th grade and Lucas was in 10th! We met at church youth group. We were always acquaintances at church, but never super close.

Over the years we lost touch, and then reconnected in 2008 through mutual friends. We discovered that we’d both taken up running since graduating high school. I said, “We should go for a run sometime!” The run didn’t happen until a month or so into dating, but Lucas took me out on our first date soon after reconnecting.

Describe the proposal. Lucas was deployed to Iraq in July of 2009. He was able to come home on a 2 week leave in January of 2010. The day I picked him up from the airport was the best day ever! I was so happy to see him after being apart for 6+ months.

We went to my house and got ready to go to lunch. I was walking out of my bedroom door to find Lucas standing there with our 2 pugs. There was a box on the floor… I looked at the little box and then at him, and before I knew it he was on his knee. He picked up the box with a ring in it and asked me to marry him.

It was simple, sweet, and absolutely perfect.

When I started looking at dresses, I immediately fell in love with the designer Melissa Sweet. Soon after getting engaged, I was going to Southern California with my mom and sister (who lives in Northern California). We found a little bridal boutique there which happened to be having a Melissa Sweet Trunk show the weekend we’d be in town. Perfect timing!

I went to the store with a couple of dresses in mind that I wanted to try on, but instead ended up with this gorgeous dress that my sister picked out.

I loved the bridesmaid’s dresses. I chose the designer and the color and then let them pick the style of dress they liked best. As a result everyone was comfortable and looked great. I really loved the color of the dresses next to the groomsmen tuxes. The colors all came together so nicely, and fulfilled my vision of a bright yet tasteful color scheme. The wedding party pictures in the green mountains looked amazing!

Also, I really loved my headband. I found it on a wedding blog early on during the planning process and immediately fell in love. I waited and waited to order it though. I thought I could find something a bit more afforable. I never did and ended up ordering it last minute. I’m so glad I did!!! I really added to my dress and hairstyle.

What was the design inspiration for your wedding invitation? My bridesmaid dresses. I had found the dresses online at The Dessy Group and decided on the fuchsia color. The model wore orange shoes with the dress and I fell in love with the color combo, which we used on our invitations.

I knew I wanted simple, bright flowers. I also didn’t wait a ton of flowers since the mountain location was already gorgeous on its own. My best friends sister had some experience with flowers so I asked her to help us with the flowers. My mom and I ordered the flowers we wanted, then my friends sister put all the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and table settings together on the day of the wedding.

The flowers turned out perfect! I’m so happy we decided to do them ourselves. I only think it worked out since we used just one type of flower and had such simple arrangements. I wouldn’t recommend this for more complex floral ideas.

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The location. We got married in the mountains of Park City, UT. Originally, guests were supposed to ride a gondola to our wedding site (a ski lodge), but due to construction at the ski resort everyone had to be transported via suburbans.

The suburban ride ended up being one of the best part of the day. Our out of town guests were able to experience a “true” mountain wedding. I was able to create a custom play list for the ride up and the scenery was gorgeous and made it an unforgettable detail.

A local cake maker who is know for her delicious flavors made our wedding cake. I loved the look of the cake, I wanted something simple in appearance yet still slightly unexpected and I think she captured just that. The flavors we chose were red velvet, carrot cake, almond, and raspberry swirl.

The red velvet was out of this world good. I can’t wait to eat the top tier for our first anniversary!

What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day?

The speeches given by my dad, our best man, and maid of honor. Lucas and I are truly blessed with amazing family and friends in our life and this was so evident in the speeches given by those closest to us. My dad had everyone in tears; it truly was a special moment. The best man (Lucas’ best friend) and maid of honor (my sister) said such wonderful, thoughtful things to us that really made the day even sweeter.

Our wedding was so memorable not only because I married the love of my life, but also because all those who came and celebrated with us. It truly was the best day of my life!

You’re right – the location alone is beautiful enough that you don’t need to spend too much time doing additional decorations! Truly, it is beautiful! And yes, your dress is beautiful – it was a really good choice!!!
