Real Colorado Wedding: Michelle & Brooks

How did the two of you meet? We actually met on eHarmony! I fast-tracked Brooks with my phone number, we had an amazing 3 hour first conversation, and met the next evening at Starbucks. I had no idea what he looked like, as his picture was of him sky diving.

I was really nervous meeting him because the conversation we had had set my expectations fairly high! When he walked through the door, I was smiling ear to ear and was hoping he was my mystery man! We met at Starbucks, went to dinner afterwards, then went to see a movie that first night. We joke that we had three first dates instead of one!

Describe the proposal. Brooks was moving to Pittsburgh for school, so he flew me out to Burlington, VT, so we could road trip to PA together and I could help him move. When I arrived in NY for my layover, he was standing outside my gate waiting for me. I wasn’t looking for him (of course) so I actually stiff-armed this strange man trying to hit on me! He got me to stop and look at him for the first time- and I was shocked! Our connecting flight got delayed, so our evening plans were delayed.

The next morning we woke up and headed out to the mountains with his friends. We did the Alpine Slide (where later I found out he had placed my ring inside my purse in fear of it falling out of his pocket), drove back to Burlington, meandered along Church Street, and snacked on Vermont’s own, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.

His friends were “running late” from leaving to feed their dogs so we walked to the boardwalk to watch the sunset while we waited. We found an elderly couple to take our picture, and once again just in case the first didn’t work out. As I turned to wrap my arms around him the second time, I got nothing but air in my arms!

I turned to look (in fear he had fallen in the water) and he was on one knee! I barely caught glimpse of something sparkly in between his fingers before my eyes quickly filled with tears. Meanwhile our elderly photographer’s wife kept smacking him on the arm yelling, “keep taking pictures, Henry! Keep taking pictures!” He asked for my forever, and I never hesitated to say, “yes!”

My all-time favorite flower is the lavender rose. It smells like candy and has no thorns- perfect for my big white day! Since I was going for ‘a romantic affair,’ I used white ostrich feathers to hide the rose stems and billow out from under the rose buds. Satin navy ribbon helped hold everything together and tie in my wedding colors for a simple bouquet.

Our DJ’s ‘Booty-a-thon’ dance off was our favorite part of the day! We picked 5 friends each to battle it off with their best dance moves while our guests played as judges. The cheering was so loud-they deemed it a tie, so bride and groom went into sudden death to dance for the win.

Our friends had equipped us with props before starting, so I had a boa and Brooks had a cummerbund around his head like the Karate Kid! We were pulling out every move we had while our friends cheered us along to help out. There wasn’t a straight face in the room and I had no idea my new husband had moves like that- until then!
