Eco-Friendly Jewelry

For over 40 years we have been celebrating Earth Day. It is the one time during the year where we are educated and urged to make a difference in our environment. It doesn’t have to end or start right there. There are many great alternatives to reducing your carbon footprint when getting married. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post I’ll let you in on a few great alternatives to make your wedding, marriage, and engagement more eco-friendly.

Today its all about one of my favorite subjects… the Bling, Bling!

GreenKarat is organic jewelry made with post-consumer recycled gold. They can custom make any style for engagement or wedding rings using recycled gold. You can donate old pieces of gold to charities that greenKarat supports or recycle your old pieces for store credit, so you will be saving money on your final purchase. Make sure you check out greenKarat’s website for more information and styles.

Not only does Green Diva plant a tree for every item sold, but they run their business by the 5 pillars of GREEN. They use green materials, packaging, run a green operation, are green advocates, and give 1% of their profits every year to environmental causes. They use 100% recycled silver and gold, fair trade pearls and gems. Green Diva also lets you modify their jewelry right on the website to customize it to your personal style. With Green Diva you will get pieces that are perfect for you, your gown, and your style. They have a great sale going on to celebrate Earth Day, so make sure you check out their website.

Brilliant Earth also uses recycled gold, platinum, and fair trade Canadian diamonds. They give 5% of their profits to local African communities harmed by the diamond industry. I love their custom designs and delicate fine jewelry pieces. They also use Rimu wooden boxes for the packaging. You have to check out their website, because diamonds are always a girls best friend…

Make sure you also check out Ruff and Cut as well as Kyler Designs for other green jewelry companies. Keep in mind you can always buy used jewelry, and modify the pieces to make them your own.
