Experts say we lose about 50 to 75 strands of hair a day, but have you notice more hair in your brush while wedding planning? If for some reason you’re seeing your scalp through your hair more than you used to, or if your scalp’s itching, flaking or tender, something else could be causing the issue. The good news? It is possible to fix it before you walk down the aisle.

One cause of hair loss may be mechanical damage. This can be caused by pulling your hair in a too-tight ponytail all the time, wearing cornrows or braids. Getting weaves or extensions can be very tough on your hair as well and let’s not forget about yanking your hair with a round brush when you’re blow-drying it!

When you see thinning hair at your temples, where the yanking tugs your hair the hardest you should start to take it easy on your hair about six months prior to the wedding. Skipping the extensions, weaves, braids, and be gentler while blow drying will definitely help the hair loss. As for ponytails, the looser the better. You can also try the best hair replacement system, wigs and toupees, like some of our favorite celebrities. Giving your hair a break will ensure it grows back healthier and stronger than before!

Genetics can also play a role in hereditary hair loss. The same amount of women are affected by hereditary hair loss as men, but most of the time women don’t start noticing it until after menopause. It’s not uncommon to see it before 40, according to experts on hair loss at brides.com.

You need to see your doctor when you notice hair loss around your hairline behind your bangs and visible signs of your scalp. Men and women have turned to products like Rogaine to help combat hereditary hair loss. It works well for both men and women!

Last but not least if you’ve recently had surgery, lost a larger amount of weight, had a baby, or if you’ve been under a large amount of stress and have noticed large amounts of hair falling out it could be telogen effluvium. Iron deficiency anemia can also cause this type of hair loss. Make sure you go to your doctor or see a dermatologist who can do a “pull test” to see how many strands of hair are coming out. If it’s a Iron deficiency you can get a supplement. If its because of stress find ways to plan your wedding stress-free as well as finding ways to relax before the wedding.
