Guest Post: Anniversary Gifts: Paper for One Year…

year 1

Having a wedding is fun, but it’s only the beginning of the adventure, and one that will have ups and downs, so that’s why you should celebrate each year of being married each time it comes around. Buying anniversary gifts is relatively easy as there is almost always a theme. Whether you go for the traditional list, the modern one or the flower list is up to you, but you should make it memorable, whoever you’re buying for.

The Traditional List

When it gets to the big numbers like fifty, sixty and more, the traditional and modern lists are the same, but for the rest of the years they are quite different. The main themes for the traditional wedding anniversary list are as follows:

  • 1st – Paper. This can be quite an inventive gift as you could express your love for your partner through a poem or through a drawing. You could offer a heart, or your partner’s favourite animal, constructed through the art of paper folding, or a flower made from the pages of a book.
  • 5th – Wood. Again, the possibilities are endless. You could plant a tree in your partner’s name, buy them furniture, or a sculpture carved from wood.
  • 10th – Tin. Tins are exciting to open, so don’t neglect the contents. Have a photo of the two of you together on the top or embossed with the date of your marriage and put something tasty inside.
  • 15th – Crystal. If it’s your style (and your partners), then go for something classic like Waterford or Dartington Crystal.
  • 20th – China. Another obvious one, a set of china plates or a porcelain figurine, or perhaps a tea cup with the year of your marriage on the side.
  • 25th – Silver. Jewellery is the perfect gift for twenty five years of marriage. Silver ornaments work well too, or a silver photo frame with an image of your wedding day within it.
  • 40th – Ruby. Jewellery is another good choice for a ruby wedding anniversary, but anything in red is a good offering, whether that’s wine glasses or just a decorated plate.
  • 50th – Gold. The golden wedding anniversary is a landmark, and if you’re an American citizen you have a visit from the president. Champagne is a great idea, especially if it was bottled during the year of their marriage.
  • 60th – Diamond. For UK citizens, sixty years of marriage gets a visit from the queen. Diamond jewellery, whether it’s a ring, earrings or a pendant, diamonds make a woman feel special.
