Wedding Catering Breakdown: The 3 Main Food Options You Need

License

Your wedding is one of the biggest days of your life, so you want it all to go smoothly – and that includes the food and catering. There’s no greater way of ruining what’s meant to be an amazing day than with poor-tasting food – or even worse, people staying hungry. Make sure that your special day is a roaring success by considering some of the different food options down below.

Pre-Dinner Appetizers

By the time you’ve gotten ready, had your main ceremony and traveled to your reception, your guests will start getting pretty hungry. Hungry guests are unhappy guests so you need to think about feeding them even though it could still be hours before the main wedding dinner. That’s where you should really consider having a pre-dinner appetizer to tide them over.

You could have something small, like waiters wandering around with canapes, or set up some grazing tables with charcuterie boards and crudités platters. Hungry people can then easily grab bits and pieces, without there being too much and filling themselves up before dinner.

Main Wedding Dinner

For a lot of guests this will be the main event (obviously, except you actually getting married) and what they look forward to most. However, there are countless bad stories from friends and family. We’ve all heard about how bad the food was at so and so’s wedding and how it gets spoken about at every family occasion, so really focusing on what you want to serve at yours is super important.

You could go left-field, choosing something that perhaps you and your partner love but isn’t very weddingy, or go for a traditional 3-course roast meal, which, yes, most people will like and expect but could easily go wrong on the day. A great, flexible option that’s pretty popular is a buffet-style dinner. It usually has something to cater to everyone and you have more flexibility on the types of dishes without disappointing anyone.

Post-Dinner Snacks

With wedding celebrations going well into the late hours of the evening and early morning, it won’t be too soon before your wedding guests start getting a bit peckish and may start to be drinking a bit more heavily. You might want to consider a few late evening snack options that people can pick at in between hitting the dance floor or throwing back a shot or two.

This could be anything from sweet treats, to bread and crisps and dips – whatever you might be feeling. This way you can avoid any potentially hungry guests or help to prevent anyone from getting a bit too drink-happy.

To summarise, you never ever want your guests to go hungry – so make sure there are plenty of occasions to get food and choices to choose from. A few other considerations to be aware of are people’s dietary preferences (like if they’re vegan, etc) and to also make note of any allergies or intolerances – which, if not catered for, can easily ruin your big day. So when you’re planning your wedding, maybe consider using some of the tips above to make sure your catering is planned to perfection.
