Brides tend to shut their eyes to their wedding gown and the accessories accompanying it and tend to other things like the well-deserved honeymoon after a long period of stressful wedding preparations.

Wedding gowns and other accessories should be well cared for and should be dealt with immediately after using them. Because the fabric and materials used to create such beautiful pieces are sensitive and fragile thus,  body oils and sweat can more likely damage the clothing.

Apart from planning one’s wedding, it is essential to plan the aftercare with the accessories, veils, and especially the wedding gown after the wedding. The aftercare may be through the wedding planner, through a trusted friend, or personally make arrangements to preserve the wedding gown.

Tips in Preserving a Wedding Gown:

  1. Finding an Expert

As mentioned above, aside from taking care of the crucial details of the wedding proper, it is essential to include in one’s list to look for trusted or recommended preservationists in the area. Inquire about the specifics like how to take care of a particular type of fabric or material, properly preserve a gown, properly clean the gown given its fragile material.

Having the experience of a preservationist on bridal gowns and the likes of its fabric, one would be able to extract helpful, professional tips and ways to preserve a gown.

  1. Never Wait It Out

The fabric and materials used to make a gown are sensitive and fragile. This is why wedding gowns should be dealt with immediately after using them. The longer the dirt, stains, and moistures stay on the gown’s delicate fabric, the more difficult it is to remove, clean, and preserve a gown.

To avoid such problems, gowns should not be sealed in plastic, no matter how convenient for storing, preventing moisture build-up. Most importantly, never deal with stains alone without consulting an expert.

  1. Cleaning the Gown

In cleaning a gown, one should leave it to experts. Experts would scrutinize the gown first and assess its materials, design especially the beads’ placement, to plan out the best cleaning method to use.

Cleaning the gown would involve dealing with the dirt and stains through careful scrubbing after analyzing the whole item. Garters, veils, and other accessories are included in the cleaning. After that, the gown is then stored in a container that is anything but plastic for preservation.

Cleaning a gown is delicate, so it is crucial to contact a dry cleaning expert for it.

Preserving and storing a gown might be expensive. From its cleaning to its storage container, all of it costs much effort and money. But it is all worth it when one bride would be able to pass it on to her future generations, well preserved and well taken care of. That way, future generations who would wear the gown would feel the elegance that the previous bride felt through the gown.
